CORON ATTRACTION & ACTIVITIES:
Coron is a small fishing and trading town on Busuanga Island, it has a natural beauty to offer to both locals and international visitors: It is both stunningly simple and primitive, and yet so beautiful you will never forget this place. Discover pristine coves with limestone cliffs, teeming with swallows and palawan red hornbills. Snorkel in its marine rich coral reefs with unbelievable underwater visibility.

ISLAND HOPPING - To go on Island hopping is something you ought to do. We are sited in the middle of a huge ocean, with thousands of small undiscovered islands and islets that mark Coron harbor and Coron bay, and explore the shallow waters and mangroves in a kayak or in a banca (paddle boat). Motorized banca proceeds to nearby beaches for more Island activities like kayaking, snorkeling and swimming. This is a popular picnic spot among the locals. Cruise along Coron Island’s twin lagoons and small coves. Coron Island’s karst formations towering out of aquamarine waters are outstanding at any time of day. Lunch is taken on a white sand beach or on board.

KAYANGAN LAKE - it’s a brackish water that many foreign & locals likes to go outings sometimes called the Blue Lagoon. This beautiful picture-perfect scenery can be seen after a walk up a mountain trail. About 15 to 20 minutes and exploring with its limestone cliffs formations and crystal clear waters are awesome and that almost took my breath away. Swimming in the cleanest lake in the Philippines fresh water lake (with a bit of salt water) in the Philippines is an experience that every Filipino should have. The entire area is perfect for taking portrait shots with limestone cliffs in the background and clean lake in the middle ground. It is the scenic landscape, crystal clear waters, that attracts and fascinates most foreign & local’s travelers.

TWIN LAGOON
These twin lagoons are separated by limestone cliffs with a small underwater tunnel where a brave tourist could swim underneath. It is dangerous which adds to the appeal and challenge to tourist who dare to go to both lagoons. You need to take a deep breath and do a deep swim to avoid the jagged edges of the limestone cliffs. Best to stop by when its low tide so easier to swim trough inside.

BANOL BEACH is just one of the many white sand beaches you can find on the island of Coron, Palawan. It is a small, cozy beach with two small huts which you can rent from the local folk. There is an entrance fee; it’s a token amount easily affordable. The water was blue and pristine. The place is quiet and relaxing. It is a good location for snorkeling and kayaking since the numerous limestone cliffs surrounding the large island of Coron are worth exploring from the sea. Usually it’s the stopped place for picnic Lunch.

HOTSPRING - Free-flowing hot mineral rich salt water trapped in a man-made pool will surely soothe your weary bones. A dip in this pool will relax tense and soothe aching muscles & Rejuvenated. Maquinit hot springs therapeutic and natural spa. Luxuriate in salty hot waters for 20 minutes, said to be therapeutic. Best time to soak visit is about 3 to 7pm with an entrance fee of P100.

CYC BEACH - There are huge families of very large, healthy sea urchins. These are the types Japanese love to eat! Just by the shore, you can see many small fishes swimming by. There was a small school of fish it takes a boat ride for 15 minutes from Coron town enjoy the beach, swimming, snorkeling; relax while waiting for the sunset there are also numbers of boats for hire including packages that include food and tour guides. Or do it yourself by walking down the beach and hiring a boat with paddle boats to lagoons, mangrove tours, bird watching, exploring uninhabited islands, picnic lunches or sunbathing in a white sand beach or even go bottom hand line fishing is also available here.

BARRACUDA LAKE - The Barracuda Lake is eerie as it is beautiful. This is where hot and cold, fresh and salty waters meet under the surface. The friendly shrimps that nibble on your fingers welcome you to the lake when you first step in. Try diving in this lake and you will have a very unique experience. The limestone cliffs rise sharply above you and dive deep into the lake. The lake is crystal clear and blue. There are catfish and other small fish around. We were told there was a barracuda, but we never saw it. Your first impression of this lake was that I was in the shooting location of Jurassic Park!

WRECK DIVE WW-II Coron is one of the most visited destinations for wreck diving in the Philippines. Wreck dive sites are found in a depth as shallow as 10-30 feet and as deep as 120-140 feet. Most are in the range of about 60-80 feet, perfect for sports divers. On September 24, 1944 this island was a witness to the US Navy’s aerial bombardment of the Japanese cargo and support vessels, seeking shelter in its turquoise waters. These have now become a sanctuary for a variety of marine creatures that call these wrecks their home. Wreck Diving Sites in Coron Bay includes the Irako Wreck, Okikawa Maru Wreck, Akitsushima Wreck, Kogyo Maru Wreck, Olympia Maru Wreck, Kyokuzan Maru Wreck, East Tangat Gunboat Wreck, Nanshin Maru Wreck, Lusong Gunboat Wreck and Skeleton Wreck. Because the wrecks have been under water for about 60 years they have become coral reefs in their own right. Both simple and advanced penetration dives are possible. Thus they are suitable for experienced wreck divers and those just starting this type of diving. They are also a delight to dive externally, as reefs, to experience the abundance of life they have attracted.

TAPYAS HILL - This trek is a gradual climb along the back ways and low hills to Mount Tapyas. Stop at any (or all) of designated look-out points to appreciate varied vistas of Coron’s waterways, its mangrove forests and surrounding islands, and Mount Darala. View Uson Island and Coron Island from different perspectives and on a clear day see all the way to the Culion group of islands. Flora visible include among others, ginger plants and pitcher plants. Nonie trees are plentiful on the saddle. An exhilarating experience, this trek leads you to the top for a bird’s eye view of Coron, the valleys, the harbor, and majestic Coron Island. From the top it’s about a half hour walk back down to the town.

BUSUANGA RIVER (Kayaking)– Whole day tour designed in function of tides. En route to Busuanga River from Coral Bay, view picture perfect islands and islets in Gutub Bay. Transfer to kayaks at staging point past small village. River scenes best appreciated as you proceed include mangroves and lush nipa stands, small settlements along the riverbanks where communities are engaged in nipa-weaving, crab-trapping and fishing. Bird watching. Enjoy a dip in cool fresh waters. Penetrate as far in as possible, and then go with the outflow at low tide.

BLACK ISLAND (Malajon)– 4 hours boat ride from Coron town
Limestone cliffs reveal a maze of caves to visit or to explore all the way up and out to another cove. Or simply enjoy the long white sand beach, and snorkel over a shallow wreck for a close encounter with colorful fish as if you were in a giant aquarium. Venture on to the other coves and pocket beaches on the island. Lunch on the beach or find shelter among the black smooth rocks that provide a cave-like room fronting the waters.

CALAUIT WILDLIFE PARK - whole day Start out early to enjoy the sight of giraffes, zebras and animals endemic to Palawan like the Calamian deer, mouse deer, bearcat, porcupine and the Palawan peacock. Landscape is “out of Africa” but the seascape is unmistakably Palawan. (Boat trip from Coron can take 3 ½ hours; early start recommended.) Experience a safari in the middle of a tropical setting. Witness giraffes, zebras and gazelles running freely in the Calauit Wildlife Sanctuary. These animals were brought to the island in the early ‘80’s. Calauit Island Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 3,700 hectares and is home to both endemic and African animals.

TOWN FIESTA:
A very popular and important gathering of the locals, family members, and visitors to celebrate viva Senior San Augustine. Most homes in Coron will prepare well-planned banquet/meals for all attendees of the fiesta. Street parade, church masses at different times, dances and programs will be held during this special occasions. In most cases, visitors show up the day before the fiesta, which is commonly called the Desperas, and stayed overnight with their family, friends or love ones in Coron to celebrate the Fiesta the following day. The Viva senior San Augustine town fiesta is usually celebrated yearly on 29th of August.

CULION HISTORY:
The island is rather remote used to be leper colony or, originally identified and designated as a special community for lepers in 1906 it was considered an ideal place to “exile” those with leprosy. was no known cure for leprosy, so segregation and isolation were the best options known to health officials But now a days you cannot see those people already because of advance system, good medic its all cured and now its one of Palawan tourist attractions because of there history preserved and historical church the municipality is the organism that administers a commune, corner or district. This headed by a mayor or municipal president and a council, all choosing by popular voting.

Hi,

I'm just wondering how safe it is to go to Palawan? should we worry about our safety there? How about a quote of how much it will cost us per person if we want to stay 5 nights and 6 days with hotel and airfare form Manila. And do you have a website of the hotels? I'm fromt he US but I love love the beach and I think your travel guide will be super helpful so I dont have to plan it.

Hello Mam,
We are happy to inform you that Busuanga in Northern Palawan is peaceful and is fortunate that NO kidnapping or terrorist threats have ever been experienced in Coron, Busuanga, Culion and Linapacan. These northern islands together form the CALAMIANES ISLANDS GROUP of Northern Palawan.
However, as a result of the unfortunate incidents in the far south, our Provincial Government, the military and our own Association of Tourism Establishments, have reviewed and together taken steps to further improve security arrangements in the towns where tourist inns are located and in the resorts which are on the islands…I would suggest you to book online cheaper that way if you like to stay in an Island Resort pls. check www.divelink.com.ph or it you want budgeted type of accommodations I can arrange it for u? email me at lisa_palawan@ahoo.com so i can send u quotations. We can only assure you of our due diligence in safeguarding peace and order in our area of operations. We take pride in our communities, which participate in securing our resorts and keeping our guests safe at all times.
